Breast cancer affects everyone

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States. About 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer during their life. While breast cancer is most often found in women, men can also get breast cancer. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed is found in a man.

When you give to the Annapolis Dragon Boat Club, you’re supporting everyone who is affected by a breast cancer diagnosis.

In 2010, we launched our first boat into Spa Creek with a bold vision: to be the regional dragon boat community for those impacted by breast cancer, where everyone is welcome.

Today, the club is more vital than ever, and we need your help to keep us afloat. Breast cancer is on the rise. Each year, over 1,200 people in our local community hear the life-altering words, “You have breast cancer.”

The Annapolis Dragon Boat Club is a lifeline.

Each member represents resilience and hope — from the 42-year-old mom of two who recently completed chemotherapy to the 83-year-old nana who sits in the front seat and sets the pace with strength and grace.

In 2024, we added 21 new breast cancer members, a remarkable expansion that reflects a growing need. This year, we expect more new members. We are connecting with cancer centers and support groups throughout the region. We are meeting with oncologists, social workers, and other providers to spread the word that dragon boating improves health outcomes. Dragon boating rebuilds strength lost during chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. It also allows survivors to reclaim control and thrive as part of a strong, supportive community.

We can’t do it without you.

Supporting a paddler costs $250 annually, including insurance, maintenance, racing, and slip fees. And as demand increases, our costs increase. We intentionally keep membership dues ($175) lower than actual costs and offer scholarships so no one is turned away.

Consider sponsoring a paddler at $250. Or consider covering the $75 gap between the membership fees and actual costs. Any gift, in any amount, makes a difference.

The club is 100% powered by volunteers. Every dollar you give goes directly to our mission: supporting survivors and building community through dragon boating. Whether you’re a paddler or a supporter cheering from shore, your contribution propels us and creates waves of hope with every stroke.
